Digital Sewing Scoop // September

Spring has sprung here in Melbourne! After a cold and wet winter, I definitely appreciate the warm sunshine on my pale face.  Along with the good weather comes a change in people's mood, which is refreshing. Anyway, enough about the weather (and apologies if you are reading this from the northern hemisphere). September has been a month full of sewing goodness! Lets get started...

Indie Sewing

What's happening in the Indie Sewing Scene?

As someone who is starting an indie sewing pattern company, finding out how other pattern companies run is fascinating.  Jenny from Cashmarette Patterns gives us an in depth look into their production process

The English speaking sewing community is going gaga over the first English issue of La Maison Victor Magazine. For us Aussies, MaaiDesign have compiled a list of stockists for the magazine. As it happens, I did manage to find a copy at my local newsagent, so perhaps try your local store first.

Crafty Cool

I hope I'll still be sewing at the age of 100 like Eva.

I found an amusing older article written by Melly Sews about silly sewing stock photos.

Sewing Skill Builder

Thanks to the wide array of online material, it has never been easier to learn how to sew.

Megan Nielsen shows us 3 ways to sew a rolled hem.

Body Love

Real women with real bodies. Lets be kinder to ourselves.

I read an article about Wolf & Rose, a Texan photographer who portrays everyday, real people in a way that challenges society's view of what a "normal" body should look like. I love this idea and wish there was more diversity depicted in mainstream media. Full article here.

Watch it

Take a few minutes out of your day to watch an inspiring video.

So this one isn't sewing related but any maker could appreciate the content on Frank Makes. His style of video easily keeps viewer interest and quite frankly (no pun intended!), he is utterly adorable. I found this video on tomato canning inspiring and I can't wait to make my own passata.

Hear Me Out

Check out my favourite podcasts of the month.

How I Built This with Guy Raz is keeping me entertained. As a small business owner, I love to hear about the surprisingly humble beginnings of some really well known companies.

I hope you have enjoyed this bumper issue of the Digital Sewing Scoop.

If you have any recommendations for next month's issue, I would love to know! Contact me via email, Instagram or leave a comment below.
